Chronic Wasting Disease - New Wisconsin Deer Season 2003 Regulations - Update

with Darrell Udelhoven
ATTEND THE ANNUAL CONSERVATION CONGRESS MEETINGS - 2006 Monday April 10th at local county Seats.

Only 8,000 of the estimated 30,000 deer in the eradication zone had been harvested to the date of 01/01/03

If CWD ever spreads to livestock private land owner's will wish they had allowed deer hunting!

So far tests have not turned up any CWD positives outside of the eradication area.

Where land owner permission has been granted organized sharp shooter hunts on private lands will be held.

Farmers and most land owners need to consider opening up their land to more deer hunters!
A high percentage of hunt-able land is posted.

2006 Baiting and Feeding Regs _Related Links  Open your land to deer hunting! The DNR was planning to kill all the deer in the infected areas around Iowa county. Baiting questions will be discussed and voted on at THE ANNUAL CONSERVATION CONGRESS MEETING  - 2006 Monday April 10th at local county Seats.

We have to figure out ways to open up more of the private lands to be able to properly harvest the requisite number of whitetail deer to reduce the spread of CWD disease, crop and browse range damages, and reduce highway accidents that threaten too many human lives.

We need longer wide open gun seasons to reduce the deer herd in the CWD management area and in adjacent counties and especially in all DNR public hunting lands like the DNR Millville area in Grant county. We need vehicle travelable roads to effectively hunt the Millville area above Millville! The DNR needs to help us on this issue, we can not walk many miles to get to the deer forest areas that we need to hunt effectively. We pay a lot of maoney to hunt public land as most private land is posted or they won't allow deer hunting even if asked, help us older hunters' get our hunting recreation by creating better access roads into Millville deer huntable areas.!

Most of the heavy hunting is only done during good weather on weekends. Therefore, hunting seasons should be extended at least to the end of December and perhaps to the middle or end of January. The only place most of us have to hunt is on public lands, if it is heavily harvested the deer will simply move in from the non hunted farm lands in the spring and summer.

If CWD ever spreads to livestock private land owner's will wish they had allowed deer hunting!

Hunting is a valuable and treasured recreation that ought to be extended as long as possible for the benefit of the hunters and the economy of our state of Wisconsin.
