dictionary's
definition of republic is: 1a) a state or nation in which the supreme
power
rests in "all" the citizens entitled to vote (the electorate) and is
exercised
by representatives elected directly or indirectly by them and
responsible
to them.
The supreme power of our nation no
longer
resides in the electorate per se but now resides in the power of money,
in
the power that mass media furnishes, and in the power of the giant
organizational powers and wealth of commercial institutions. At the top
echelon levels of
national and state electoral offices, what are the chances of a
candidate without the support of the above entities?
Republican: 1) of, characteristic of,
or
having the nature of, a republic 2 favoring, or in accord with the
nature
of, *3 [R-] of, belonging to, or characteristic of the Republican
Party.
1a) a person who favors a republican form of government.
The Republican Party and many elected
Republicans are destroying what is left of our republic; take some time
to think in depth
about this claim. Corporate money and media determine who gets to run
for
national offices and then the electorate's choice can be trumped by the
congressional
witch hunter's.
Check the voting records and actions
of
Republicans on campaign finance reform, on GATT, NAFTA, Fast Track, and
on other important economic policy making issues of genuine public
concern. The empirical voting
record of Republicans in recent decades would tend to demonstrate that
they
support the interest's of corporations over the electorate. Moreover,
with
the support of the corporate owned media they keep our focus on their
issue
interest's while the public' interests are ignored.
