I L Parsons - Doc, with his good looking Eight Point Buck - 2003 WI Deer Season

This is the 8 pointer that I got Sun. Nov. 23 about 8:45 A.M. We are loading it up here to go home Monday morning. This is up at Manitowish Waters in Vilas County. We had about 3" of snow and 14 degrees with a cold northwest wind that morning! I was using a .280 Rem. in a Browning medalion rifle loaded with 140 gr. Nosler partition bullets.  Doc

I L Parsons - Doc with his good looking Eight Point Buck - 2003 WI Deer Season

As for deer hunting, I only hunted the first two days but lucked out! I hunted in Vilas County in Wisconsin, which I always do the first weekend, and got a nice 8-point buck with one shot through the lungs and heart. That was the only deer that I saw while hunting. My grand nephew was with me and he got a nice 6-pointer with one shot through the lungs and heart on Saturday. I do not believe that he saw any other deer that first day.

I shot a coyote on Thursday, Feb. 19.

We stopped hunting on Sunday, Feb. 22. I shot a coyote that morning, which made 42 coyotes and 3 foxes for the year. These were the only ones that I got this year, and both with a shotgun using #4 buckshot. I do not have any hunting pictures.

Max is still going but gets tired a little sooner. Another fellow has a young red bone that is doing good.  We got 43 coyotes last year. I don't remember how many fox that we got last year but not very many. As long as you have a lot of coyotes you won't get many foxes. Two or three years ago we got 53 coyotes.  Doc

<>The .280 Remington is a near perfect deer cartridge, and with proper bullets will also do the job on Elk and Moose.
Sorry about the messed up link to the image, it was loading off my PC and not the Web site address! Darrell
