The most popular rifles in the group would be the Remington .222, .223 and .22-250. Jeremy's .223 broke so he brought the .300 Win Mag out one day!  Wow! You should have seen the coyote he shot with that! The hottest trigger finger of the year would have to be Clyde's (my dad).  He accounted for 15 of them this year.  He shoots a Rem .222 with the heavy varmint barrel.  And believe me, he did not miss very often!

As far as stories go, there is about a million of them!  Too many to mention. Here is probably the best (or at least the most humor). Randy (our neighbor) raises sheep and just hates coyotes!  He took a dead sheep and placed it up on his terrace near his yard specifically to bait coyotes.  Now we're talking an honest 250 yds out! Well one day he called and said that he had a coyote feeding on the
terrace.  He told my dad to drive to a hill where he could see it and watch in case he missed.  So Clyde did as he was told.  Randy shot the coyote from his garage window!  My dad went to the garage and there he was in his slippers standing in the garage.  He then asked Clyde to walk out and get it because his wife had to bring a cake to work and he was supposed to be stirring the frosting for it at the time!  So Clyde did.

This year was really neat for us.  We got a lot of publicity for what we did this year which is not all bad.  The pics made the local
paper and everything, and opened a lot of eyes.

We probably won't have another year like this one.  But then again we might look back some day and laugh at our 68 coyotes in 2001!

Thanks for posting the pic.
Sincerely,
The Coyote Coalition

I was just looking through your Website and noticed the "Shooting Running Coyotes" page.

That is an excellent point to bring out to hunters!  Many people have no clue as to how far to lead a coyote or a fox at certain distances.

Well as for me, if I had a dime for every dog I missed this year I would be a rich man!  I think most of it is practice and experience.  But a good set of guidelines like your page can at least get a guy started.

Thanks,
CR / Corey
