New Remington Core-Lokt Ultra Bullet (CLUB) - Bullet Penetration & Terminal Performance - Reduce Lead Fragmentation

This was very impressive terminal bullet performance weight retention for close range shots on deer! These bonded bullets will be more dangerous to shoot in respect to ricochet and shoot through scenarios, use extra caution. The WPTV 2008 WI Deer Hunt program 11/13/08 emphasized using cartridges with bonded bullets or all copper bullets to reduce the lead fragmentation in deer meat & lead poisoning.  I would like to see the Remington Core-Lokt Ultra Bullet (CLUB) in .243 Win perform on Elk. I just saw where the Remington Core-Lokt Ultra bullet is offered at Cabela's for reloading. I intend to get some 6-mm 100 grain Core-Lokt Ultra bullets for my 243-06 Wildcat for taking big whitetail bucks and elk, if I ever get to hunt elk.

http://www.cabelas.com/  Click customer Service & ask if the nearest Cabela's retail store has your caliber bullet in stock.  Cabela's retail stores sell the CLU Bullet [CLUB] in many caliber's including 6mm/.243 caliber. I am handloading some CLU Bullets
[CLUBs] (available at Cabelas) for my 243 Win & 243/06 Wildcat for this 2008 deer season

The 25 yard .243 Win., 100 Grain "Remington Premier Core-Lokt Ultra Bonded Bullet Terminal Performance Test I Promised."

I used (3), three gallon capped plastic milk jugs & another 1.56 gallon Ultra Sun clothes detergent plastic jug (equals 4 jugs) filled with water backed up with numerous old magazines.  The bullet above went through all (4) four jugs back to back and the magazines stopped it! That is penetration!

The 100 grain Remington Core-Lokt Ultra bullet demonstrated tremendous explosive performance on the first jug going through all four jugs and found in front of the magazines.  At only 25 yards the mushroomed bullet weighed 84.8 grains with an over 2X .489 caliber diameter expansion that went past the base of the bullet.

The 100 grain Nosler Partition bullet blew open (3) three gallon capped plastic milk jugs of water sitting in a row at 16 paces and was still  going, with no bullet recovery.

95-SST blew-up one jug and one tiny fragment caused a very small leak in the second jug
-95-SST 100 yard plus broadside lung shots only - violent explosive
hydraulic shocking power
-due to all of its energy being shed within the first plastic milk gallon jug of water. (.243 Winchester cartridge)   I performed a 95 gr SST bullet terminal test with my 243/06 Wildcat [243/06 Wildcat aka 6mm-06]  at only 16 long paces with two one gallon plastic milk jugs filled with water lined up with a short distance between them. The bullet totally blew-up the first one and blew the second water jug up leaving the remainder of the bullet's copper jacket inside it. The remaining jacket only weighed 22.2 grains of the original 95 grains, result - lead fragmentation & lead posioning. Except for long range shots on deer,  I will use the rest of these 243/06 SST reloads on coyotes. I am loading the 100 grain Remington Core-Lokt Ultra bullet for deer & for elk if I ever get to hunt them.

If you notice any of these signs below, stop shooting and find the cause before firing or reloading any more.

Let me know how this NEW bullet performs: "Remington Premier Core-Lokt Ultra" Ammo
The special bonded construction retains 85% of original weight and delivers controlled expansion "up to" 1.8 times the original diameter.
Serious performance from point blank range "out to 500 yards."
(Reduce lead fragmentation - lead poisoning by shooting bonded or all copper bullets cartridges!)

Cabelas.com has the NEW 100 grain Remington Premier Core-Lokt Ultra (CLUB) Ammo in 243-Win., & other caliber's on the shelf at Cabela's PDC store.

Forget about shooting deer at 500 yards with any bullet with a standard 243 Winchester cartridge, follow Rick Jamison's advice.  Rick Jamison writer for Petersen's Hunting Magazine, July 2002, p- 20, Guns & Loads Article Long Rangers, - says in essence, that for deer sized game you need a minimum of 1000 ft/lbs of energy and 2000 ft/sec velocity at the impact range for adequate bullet expansion. The bullet needs a sectional density between .215 to .265 and a high ballistic coefficient for long range shots on deer sized game animals.

I filled an empty plastic one gallon milk jug with water and shot it with the new 95 grain SST bullet. It appeared to be one of the most explosive bullets I have tested in my .243 Winchester. The hydraulic shocking power of this bullet on broadside lung shots ought to be devastating on coyotes & Canadian timber wolves.

On 10/17/04, I filled 3 one gallon plastic milk jugs with water lined in a row at 15 yards and shot them using my Remington 722 with a 22" BBL, in my "243 Winchester" using the Hornady 95 grain SST bullet and 44 grains of RL 19.  It blew the first two up big time and went through the third one gallon jug of water. This should be a very good terminal performance bullet on deer in the 243 Winchester caliber cartridge.

Click on SST - Super Shock Tipped Bullets Flat-based bullets - at closer ranges these bullets will lead fragment the meat, therefore I may use these loads up on coyotes!

Work loads up to the levels that begin to show pressures and then back off! Never leave your cartridges where the sun can shine on them as it will cause pressures to rise  to dangerous levels, especially those loaded with ball powders. Mine is a 722 Remington in .243 cal., I used a 7.5 lb rifle weight for all the recoil figures above. A .308 Winchester using a 150 grain bullet will run around 18 ft/lbs of recoil. These .243 cartridges are a real pleasure to shoot! Use hearing protection!
