George Perdue: "I should have mentioned that DuWayne Brown (Brownie)
should be credited with the "longest off-hand running shot of the year," over 323 yards
as measured with a laser range finder."

The following is for the reloading and ballistic affection ados, of which I am one.

DuWayne Brown (Brownie) stopped by last night and gave me the information you wanted.
His rifle is a Remington BDL 22-250 with a Leupold 3 x 9
He only shoots ammunition reloaded by John Olson (Ole)
Brownie said the coyote was running wide open going from right to left and was at about the 10 O'clock position when he shot and followed through, [he thought] he was leading the animal 1 to 2 feet.

I also called John Olson (Ole) for information on his reloads (Lots of our guys will only use ammo reloaded by Ole.

Ole said that Brownie's were 55 gr. Hornady soft point part no. 2265
The powder is IMR 4064 35.5 gr.
He used the factory specs for the bullet seating.
The primers are CCI

Ole did say that he was now experimenting with some Varget powder.
Congratulations Brownie on a tremendous off-hand shot at that range! Wow! These days, I have to have a good rest to even come close on a shot like that. I do wish we had some good moving target ranges where we could all get some good competitive practice. You'll bag a lot more whitetails if you become proficient on running shots at various ranges and angles. Figure the leads at various distances and angles in your head and then close your eyes and visualize squeezing off the round while maintaining the required lead.

Some day you will be able to buy computerized laser scopes that will put a correct constantly adjusting red dot on the heart area of the running animal, for you to hold on. The question is -- will they keep the cost low enough for the average hunter? Come on scope manufacturers get your engineers on this and get it on the market -- I need one! These computerized scopes would be programmable to your specific chronographed loads and their ballistics.

I hope to see all of you coyote hunter's soon -- Darrell
