Core Bonded Bullets -- Ready for the Big Game Hunting Seasons
The New Hornady
InterBond™
and Nosler AccuBond and "Remington Premier® Core-Lokt® Ultra" High Terminal
Performance Premium Core Bonded Bullets pose a special
interest to anyone using high velocity cartridges. I have a 243/06
Wildcat, aka 6mm-06, that is in need of a good controlled expansion
bonded bullet for large whitetail bucks & mule deer hunting.
Below
is the 25 yard ".243 Winchester 100 Grain
Remington Premier Core-Lokt Ultra Bullet -- Terminal Performance Test,"
I Promised.
I used (3),
three gallon capped plastic milk jugs filled with water and another
1.56 gallon Ultra Sun clothes detergent plastic jug filled with
water (Four jugs total) backed up with numerous old magazines. The
bullet shown
below went through all (4) four jugs back to back and the magazines
stopped the bullet.
The 100 grain
Core-Lokt Ultra bullet demonstrated tremendous explosive performance on
the first jug going through all four jugs and was
found on the ground in front of the magazines. At only 25 yards
the mushroomed bullet weighed 84.8 grains with an over 2X .489 caliber
diameter expansion that went past the base of the bullet.
This
was very impressive bullet terminal
performance and weight retention for close range shots on deer!
These bonded bullets will be more dangerous to shoot in respect to
ricochet and shoot through scenarios, use extra caution.
I would like to see that .243 Win Ultra cartridge's performance on Elk.
A knockdown anchoring
kill shot
placement is 3 to 4 inches below the top line just back of the top of
the shoulders.

84.8 gr Core- Lokt Ultra 243 Win.) nose view
I hope all of
these new bullets will be available soon in 6mm .243 caliber "bullets"
so I can try them out in my 243/06 wildcat before the 2005 deer season
opens in September. They do now!
Cabela's supposedly is now 11/15/07,
stocking the Core-Lokt Ultra bullet for us Reloaders!
Remington sells their Ultra
in the .243 Win cartridge,
100 grain weight, Cabela's stocks them.
In the appropriate cartridges these bullets should be good on moose,
elk, and larger game.
If their claims are true owner's of high velocity cartridges
will be in for a treat. Shot placement will still be key for quick
kills. Some are claiming good bullet performance from 50
yards to 400 yards. The reality is that "400-yards" is too far for most
shooters'
to consistently hit the vital kill zones.
When you make kills with these new bullets, I want you to share some
performance reports with us. When possible recover the bullet and weigh
it. Also take some photos of the kill and scan and email the bullet's
image, if recovered.
I will be adding more information and reports later. -Darrell
==================
I'd like to see the terminal performance of these new bullets on elk when loaded in my 243/06 Wildcat, aka 6mm-06 Wildcat,
cartridge.
Whisky
Chamberlain of Idaho took 15 consecutive big bull elk, all one shot
kills,
with a regular .243 Winchester, therefore I believe with the right
bullet
and will placed and proper ranged shots the .243/06 Wildcat ought to be
adequate on elk. I don't want to buy a new larger caliber rifle just to
go elk hunting once or twice.
Today,
03/04/07, I just saw on the Men's Channel - Dish-TV CH 218, a massive
old Elk shot at over 200-yards & dropped in his tracks with a
.243-Winchester with open iron sights. They did not mention the
bullet
weight or construction type, however, it proved to me that a Well
Placed .243 bullet at 200-yards will deck the biggest Elk that walks.
Therefore, my 243/06 Wildcat ought to do the job on big Whitetails, big
Mule Deer and on Elk with the 100 Grain
Remington Premier Core-Lokt Ultra bullet.
The 100 Grain
Remington Premier Core-Lokt Ultra bullet is now available for Reloaders'
along with bullets from .243 to .338 calibers.
In the 243
Winchester for big Mule deer & Elk, I would use the 100-grain
Remington
Core-Lokt Ultra factory cartidges, if reloading I would use the 100 Grain
Remington Premier Core-Lokt Ultra Bullets.
All
those hunting programs should give all the fine point details about the
rifle caliber & bullet weight and construction type! That would
make those programs much more interesting to all of us.
I don't want to buy a new
larger caliber rifle just to go
elk hunting once or twice. The fact is that when sectional densities
are
equal, at equal velocities the smaller diameter bullet might penetrate
deeper than the bigger diameter bullets.
The
improved terminal performance of the new bullets could be a great help
on big game like elk and moose. Also, on deer sized game with the
smaller caliber high velocity cartridges.
